About Excell

Excell is one of the fastest growing Metal Spinning businesses within the UK. Based in Hilsea, Portsmouth, we have firmly established our brand along the south coast as a Market leader for bespoke, tailor made solutions for a wide variety of industries.

Since 2000, the business has continued to grow from the current two Directors to a workforce that totals 28. All the while occupying premises 21,000 sq. ft in size and complimented by one of the UK’s largest fleet of CNC Metal Spinning lathes.

There are three main principles set by the Directors and they are in order;

What does the Apprenticeship Vacancy entail?

As an apprentice at Excell Metal Spinning Ltd., you will take part in internal training courses that have been generated in the enabling of safe and competent working practices in key areas of the production process.

You will learn how to perform the following tasks as part of your apprenticeship;

  • The set up and use of Fly Press machinery
  • The set up and use of Guillotining machinery
  • The set up and use of Circle cutting machinery
  • The set up and use of CNC Metal Spinning machinery
  • CNC Metal Spinning programming
  • The set up and use of TIG Welding

Apprentices will also be provided with a day release Engineering based course to compliment learning and safety in the workshop.

What Training is provided?

As an apprentice, you will have the opportunity to study the following through this apprenticeship;

  • Apprenticeship in Qualification
  • Employee rights and Responsibilities
  • End Point Assessment
  • English, Mathematics and ICT (If required)

What Hours and Wage does this apprenticeship involve?

As part of the contract of employment, Apprentices will be expected to work a minimum of 17 hours to a maximum of 45 hours per week. This will be discussed between the apprentice and employer to confirm suitable hours that will benefit both parties.

Excell Metal Spinning Ltd.’s opening hours are Monday – Thursday 7am-5.30pm (and Friday 7am-12pm if required).

Excell also offers a generous apprentice wage of £7 per hour as the starting wage paid weekly. The average apprentice wage is £4.30, meaning this wage is 48% higher than average.

What do we look for in an apprentice?

The apprentice will be required to have a good working attitude, with an eagerness to learn. Everyone at Excell works as a team with all member looking to help one another during each working day, which is why the attitude towards others is always a must have requirements within the organization.

We have formulated our very own internal training courses for apprentices to work towards completing.

Safety is paramount throughout these courses, which aim towards achieving competence in setting and using Machinery as well as honing skills over time.

Desired skills and qualities

Candidates with a mechanical or Engineering mindset is advantageous from previous successful apprenticeships as well as being a ‘hands-on’ focused person

An eagerness to learn and good attitude towards others is also desirable. Self-discipline long with a good level of practical skills, with a “can Do” attitude.

For this standard A*- C in Maths and English or equivalent is desirable, however all applicants will be considered on merit subject to initial assessment against the requirement of the standards.

A basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel is essential. As is a willingness to learn.
