"The Machine Shop Opening Is Long Overdue And Can Only Make Us Stronger"

-Neil Hunt, Co-Founder and Director

January has been a very busy but very proud time for the team here at Excell. The opening of Metamex has been an encouraging and uplifting process for the company.

As a company, we are extremely proud of the hard work that has been put in by the entire team. This moment was not just one to be shared within the Excell family, but we are immensely grateful for the support that we have received from our customers and other businesses within the manufacturing industry.

We envisioned as grand an opening as our business venture and what better way than to celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony. We were honoured to have Penny Mordaunt MP on site to officially open Metamex on January 24th. We wanted the pride and hard work we have devoted to this expansion to be recognized on a profound level. After a tour of the workshop, and demonstrations from our spinners, the whole team gathered for the ribbon cutting ceremony where Penny said – “I’m immensely proud of what they’ve done here, this is going to be incredible for jobs and local opportunities but also its really important to keep some of these traditional skills alive. We’re the best in the world as this sort of thing, I’m very proud that this company calls Portsmouth home.”

This new machine shop has potential to help not only us, but other local businesses, as well as grow the UK Manufacturing Industry and bring it all back home! We hope that the future will bring more moments that we can share with you and grow a bigger and better UK Manufacturing Community.

What Did You Think?

The opening of Metamex is bringing us one step closer to being as self-sufficient of an organization as we can be. With the importance that we feel this new venture holds for Excell, we use this time to reflect on the month, where we asked what you all think it means to be self-sufficient, and how much importance it holds in your decision-making process.

What Does Self-Sufficient Mean To Us?

To us, being self-sufficient means more than lower outsourcing levels – but has a knock-on effect to every area and process of the company.

Being self-sufficient means being an effective supplier. This can mean many things, such as;

  • Fast Lead Times
  • Value for Money
  • High Quality
  • Sustainability
  • Excellent Customer Management

Or all the above.

When asked, our followers on Twitter said that Lead Times, Cost and Quality are the most important aspects that make effective suppliers, with a few votes saying that all are equally important.

Regardless of the most important factor in our followers’ opinions, we will always devote 100% of our time, energy, and effort into ensuring that each factor is met to the best of our abilities. Our aim is to ensure you don’t have to sacrifice or settle on your supplier.

Being a Made in Britain member, supporting and encouraging people to shop British and support our manufacturing industry is crucial. We pride ourselves in sourcing as much in the UK as is possible, ensuring your products are quality and of British Standard. When asked, our Twitter followers resonate with us, in saying that Quality and Supporting local companies were the most important reasons to use British Manufacturers.

We are immensely grateful and proud to be in the position we are in and are determined to grow and support the UK Manufacturing Industry. We want to thank our customers that have supported us thus far, it has been a delight seeing all the support and being able to celebrate this moment with you.
